Ooh, that sounds interesting, getting more into the argument between magic and technology. In my world that's sort of a backdrop thing, it affects the political climate but doesn't come into the main characters lives that much. It would be fascinating to take it to its extremes and have it play out. I've heard of some Age of Sail fantasy before, though I've never read any. It must be quite similar, I suppose, although my characters aren't planning on going near the sea. Your idea sounds good, though. Wizards on the sea :) I'd read it. Magic in my world is quite limited. Human wielders can only do things that have instantaneous results - explosions, shields. They have to be constantly involved with their spells or they fail, which means that they can't cast spells on the objects like the guns, but it also means that guns have more effect than they could have because the magic users get tired and their spells aren't seamless. A shield will have some weak points and they can't just explode an entire battlefield. Its more like having extra heavy artillery.
