Heh, no, I'm not making personal comments, I'm just posing questions that an author should think about. And I certainly wasn't saying you should avoid firearms in fantasy. Far from it. I actually can't stand the tendancy of fantasy to stay in a medieval stasis as if that's the only option. I was merely saying that firearms didn't surpass bows immediately. Just like, in the modern day, energy-based weapons haven't come close to being viable on a large scale yet. Everyone might be toting laser guns in a few centuries, but we aren't there yet. So, there's another question. If your setting doesn't have many mages and the ones there are don't often fight in wars, and you say magic isn't going to feature much in the story, why do you make such a big deal of "magic vs. technology"? And my point about technology isn't that firearms aren't a relatively advanced technology, but that the invention of gunpowder didn't spark (no pun intended) the existence of "technology". Windmills, waterwheels, clocks, these are all technology too. "Technology" didn't just spring into existence overnight.
